Replacement caravan and motorhome windows

One of our members has reported that he recently had to replace the front window in his Rapido Club. This is something that people often ask about and up to now I have not been able to help. Our member has found a company in Halifax who offers this service. There is no need to take the van to them – you send the window to them and they manufacture a replacement and send that back to you. He was impressed with the service and the price.

New book:

Recreational Vehicles: A World History 1872-1939 by Andrew Woodmansey is published by Pen & Sword in the UK. It’s a high-quality hardback in square format and also available as an ebook. It’s available from Amazon and all good bookshops for about £20.

Despite having 'recreational vehicles' in the title, the book is the first ever international history of caravans, motorhomes, camping trailers, fifth wheelers and teardrops. The first chapter is dedicated to the UK and the cover features Noel Pemberton Billing’s Road Yacht of 1927. The early days of horse-drawn caravanning are covered as well as the steam-drawn caravans of France at the turn of last century.

It has chapters on the UK, USA, France, Germany, Australia and New Zealand, illustrated by 300 black and white images of archival quality. It features not only the vehicles but also their designers, owners and users. As such it is a social and leisure history of the early twentieth century as well as an automotive one. With its new discoveries of early RVs from around the world, the book re-writes RV history.

Spare parts for caravans and motorhomes

One of the most frequent queries we receive is from people who want to know where they can get increasingly scarce spares for their caravans. Some years ago, we acquired a list of caravan breakers and surplus stock dealers. We are making this list available here although we cannot guarantee that all of the businesses are still in existence.
